We westerners are incredibly wasteful people.

The amount of perfectly reusable or recyclable stuff that ends up being dumped into piles of garbage is a massive indictment on all of us.

Our (quite recent) ancestors had wholly different attitudes to what constituted garbage. They had very little money, and very limited access to manufactured items, so they made damn sure that they made maximum use of whatever materials they had. They would be utterly horrified I’m sure if they could come back and see what we throw away.

Items such as old soda cans for example. Just look at what you really have with a used soda can: a soldered up strip of perfectly good aluminum – metal that can be used for all sorts of purposes.

As preppers we really need to be in this mindset, how can we maximize the use of the materials we have to hand.
