Fire is something that humans have depended upon right through our entire history. It’s quite true to say that without fire we probably wouldn’t have progressed even to the stone age, and would have been wiped out long before. It’s our ability to harness and use fire that finally started us on the course to modern humans.

Fire fulfills so many needs in a survival situation doesn’t it? Cooking of course, but also warmth, comfort and defense.

And yet, for all it’s vital necessity, if you got 100 modern day Americans to try starting a fire without an artificial aid of some sort,  at least 95 of them (and quite likely even more) would be totally unable to do it.
